Food Entitlement

What is food entitlement, well for me it means I don't worry about where my next meal is coming from, and in fact, I don't have to worry about what kind of food it is either. I can pretty much get whatever I would like whenever I would like, either homemade, ready made, frozen or take out...and that's what do. I grew up in a home where both parents worked for the majority of the time with the fridge and the cupboards always being fully stocked. I also was coming home from school at an early age to an empty house because of the hours my parents worked. Herein lies the problem, for me, I would get home around 3:30 and make 2 sandwiches, usually just cheese slices and bread slightly microwaved and sit myself in front of the TV and wait for my parents to get home. Once home they would make dinner, my parents are British and the meals were usually heavy and would consist of meat, some kind of potato side dish and a vegetable that I would rarely eat. Now maybe your first thought was, why didn't they, A. ask me if I had a snack, B. portion control my meals or C. wonder why there was 4 slices of bread and cheese gone everyday. I'll tell you why, Food Entitlement. My parents worked hard and bought the food they wanted and that I wanted, and would make sure the supplies never ran out.

Now, as a working adult I just buy what I want and don't really have to think about if I can afford it. I have never felt the pain of hunger due to my lack of income, social status or having to put others ahead of me. I can provide for everyone that I need to. Because of this I use food as a reward (future topic) and it causes me issues with portion control (future topic). When someone says "you can eat whatever you like as long as it is in moderation" I chuckle because my moderation is not moderate at all...
